But in 20, it looks like Sony will still have major games to come. There are major PlayStation games lined up for this year, and beyond – Days Gone, Spider-Man, Detroit: Become Human, God of War, and Dreams, right above my head. In fact, just like they did with the PS1, PS2, and PS3, it looks like Sony will be looking to round off the PS4 generation with flying colors. And yet, it doesn’t look like the relentless gaming assault Sony has planned for the PS4 is stopping anytime soon.

With the current generation now in its fifth year, rumors of full successors to the PS4 and Xbox One loom on the horizon – and, if history is the priority, then a PS5, at least, can be expected. Where Xbox consoles and Nintendo consoles drop support at dusk in view of their new machines (although Nintendo handhelds tend to have very long tails, to be fair), PlayStation consoles just continue to perform very. Sony continues to supply PlayStation consoles to the end of their life and beyond, perhaps the reason we can attribute the relatively weak starts of PlayStation consoles in terms of significant first-party support. The PS3 itself had a 2013 superlative, despite the upcoming PS4 launch – it got God of War Ascension, Puppeteer, Beyond: Two Souls, Gran Turismo 6, and of course, The last of us that year, which was also Seven years after the launch of the console. The original PlayStation received major new games long after the PS2 hit the market the PS2 ended up lasting 13 years on the market, and Sony itself was releasing major new titles, including Shadow of the Colossus, MotorStorm: Arctic Edge, and most memorable, God of war 2, after the launch of the PS3.
TThe one thing Sony is known for above all else is its excellent long-term support for its consoles (but not their handhelds – RIP PS Vita, you died too young).
